A source for reliable information and resources on Integrative Medicine under the direction of Dr. Alan Remde.
Intended audience are medical/healing practitioners as well as anyone else interested in Integrative medicine.
Integrative medicine may be defined as the responsible integration of different healing systems into a new whole, as informed by best evidence. We live in a ‘global village’, with fusion of many aspects of culture such as cuisine, music and art. Healing systems including Western conventional medicine are a reflection of the culture they are embedded in. Each healing system has its strengths and limitations. Â Integrative medicine practitioners are pioneers working to bring the best of the world’s different healing systems together in a balanced way to create a modern form of medicine that optimizes healing.
The philosophy of Integrative medicine is to honor the good in all healing systems, including Western conventional medicine. As an integrative medicine practitioner, I recognize the tremendous value of (and am also trained in) conventional medicine . Modalities such as advanced imaging, pharmaceuticals and surgery can greatly benefit patients in the appropriate contexts. Â Because we are formally trained in other modalities such as nutrition, therapeutic movement, mind/body medicine and botanical medicine, Integrative medicine practitioners are able to offer other options that can add value to conventional medicine.
Integrative medicine honors tradition and holistic intuition as sources of understanding, but is also informed by best scientific evidence. Because scientific understanding is dynamic and growing, the point of views listed here may change from time to time. Consider this as a sign of integrity and strength.
